The IARTEM 2019 conference invites presentations in four formats: Paper presentation, symposium, round table, and poster presentation. Please read the call for abstract for each format to find the optimal format to present your research.
Paper presentation
Abstracts for paper presentations must be submitted by latest 20 April 2019.
Subjects for paper presentations are ongoing or finished research projects that relate to the theme of the conference by:
- Presenting new, empirical research or
- Presenting new perspectives, unfold, or analyze current issues and/or
- Contributing to theoretical or methodological development.
Abstracts must be between 400-500 words, not counting a maximum of 5 references.
Abstracts must contain:
- A title
- Two or three keywords
- Clearly defined research problem and research question
- Explanation of method and/or methodology and its relevance towards the research question.
- Description of data and how data is analyzed, if empirical research.
- Results or preliminary results
Abstracts must be in English. If you prefer to present in Spanish or Portuguese, please specify this in the abstract submission. There will be one session exclusively in Spanish and Portuguese which you can apply to participate in.
Abstracts will be double-blind peer-reviewed by experienced researchers.
Paper presentations at the IARTEM conference are 20 minutes for presentation followed by 10 minutes comments and questions from the audience.
Symposium
The conference-format “Symposium” is centered around a current, relevant theme concerning the headline of IARTEM19 and should involve 2-3 research groups, preferably but not necessarily from different countries
Duration: Symposium will be 75 minutes. Depending on the number of groups presenting, there will be 15-20 minutes for each group presentation interspersed with 10 minutes of questions/discussions
Research groups interested in presenting their work in a symposium need to send in a text addressing their contribution to the theme alongside an abstract (framing). When participating in a symposium your research group needs to send in the following:
Theme: see below
Description/framing: addressing the question “what is the group’s contribution to the theme” in ½-1 page
Abstract: following the rules of the abstract-format for paper presentations (see above)
Symposiums can be constructed in two ways:
- Peer-moderated symposium: The 2-3 groups involved conduct and make peer-to-peer-response among themselves during the session – and include the audience in the seance along the way.
- External-moderated symposium: An external moderator conducts the symposium and includes the audience where possible.
Groups are obliged to state whether they prefer the one or the other.
Pre-symposium:
It is necessary that presentations and other resources needed during the symposium are made available and sent to the other groups by 01 September 2019. This is essential when the other groups need to interact with your work during the symposium.
During symposium:
It is also of importance that the groups of the symposium consider how they can involve audience participating in the event.
Suggested themes for a symposium at IARTEM19:
- Quality in learning materials (criteria/non-criteriological)
- Content-oriented curriculum and learning materials
- Learning analytics and learning design
- Learning materials in teacher education
- Video as learning material in teacher education
- Digital materials and digital learning platforms in classroom
- Adaptive (teacher-proof) learning materials
- Didactical techlash
- Approval systems for learning resources vs free market models?
- Quality in the production system of learning materials
Round table
Round tables are in two formats:
- In this format of the round table there is possibility to present and discuss works in progress, or new (preliminary) results in research. Each participant is expected to make a presentation of 5-7 minutes and engage in discussion with the other presenters and participants. Each table will accommodate up to 15 people, and will be moderated by the presenters. Each round table is 60 minutes. In a session of 2 hours, there will be 2 roundtables.
- 2-3 researchers formulate a theme of the round table and each of them present for 10-15 minutes, depending on the number of participants.
Participants should submit an abstract of 350 words (not counting references). The abstract should include research question, theoretical framework, methodology, findings or expected outcome
Abstracts will be reviewed according to criteria of relevance to the conference theme and scientific contribution.
Abstracts must contain:
- A title
- Two or three keywords
- Clearly defined research problem and research question
- Explanation of method and/or methodology and its relevance towards the research question.
- Description of data and how data is analyzed, if empirical research.
- Results or preliminary results
Abstracts will be double-blind peer-reviewed by experienced researchers.
Abstracts must be in English.
Poster sessions
The poster session is a good format for:
- Engaging in discussion and dialogue about your research.
- Visually presenting your research in an appealing and engaging way.
Abstract for poster sessions should be no longer than 300 words, and include research question, objectives and theoretical framework, research methods, and findings or expected outcomes.
Poster presenters prepare a printed poster in A0 or A1-format, and a 5 minute oral presentation.
Posters and poster presentations are in English.
